Presentation by
the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA)
National Weather Service (NWS).
Paul Svoboda
will present information regarding the National Weather Service network
infrastructure including the NWS topology, and disaster recovery and
incident response. He will present a case study of NWS assets
utilized during significant natural disasters such as hurricane Katrina.
Gary Garnet,
Warning
Coordination Meteorologist, will describe what it means to be a NWS
'storm spotter.' The goal is to provide a fundamental understanding of
a storm's structure, which in turn better prepares the listener for
extreme and unusual weather conditions. Those attending Mr. Garnet's
briefing will become official National Weather Service 'Storm Spotter.'
Spotters will also receive a unique ID number which is used when
reporting severe weather events to the NWS.
