Insider Threat Study (ITS)
A discussion of the cause and
effect of cyber attacks occurring from within an organization.
Individual motivation (behavioral) will be described as well as a
description of the technical execution used to sabotage an
organization's
systems. Finally, recommendations for mitigation and prevention
will be outlined.
The Insider Threat Study
(ITS) is a joint Carnegie-Mellon University/CERT and
Secret Service, National Threat Assessment Center (NTAC) effort begun in
2002.
It is a unique study of insider incidents examining each case from both
technical and behavioral perspectives. The ITS produced two
reports summarizing
its findings:
1.
Illicit Cyber Activity in the Banking and Finance Sector
2. Computer System Sabotage in Critical Infrastructure Sectors
Both reports are available on-line in .pdf format through either CERT's
[ link ]
or
NTAC's [ link
] web site. |
